ATS Formula 3 Cup to take a break in 2015

23. January 2015

The ATS Formula 3 Cup or rather its planned international successor series, the German Formula Open, will not take place in 2015. This decision was made by the Formula 3 Association in an internal meeting. Even before the start of the 2014 season the FIA had limited the regulations for national Formula 3 series to such an extent that it is no longer possible to contest the cup as a national series. Those requirements by the FIA were not changed ahead of the 2015 season. The entire Board of the Formula 3 Association regret to have to take this step and will make an effort to support young Formula 3 drivers in Germany and to revive the German Formula 3 in the near future.

ArtLine plans comeback

Team ArtLine, a former ATS Formula 3 Cup competitor, plans its comeback in the fastest German single-seater series. In the coming year, the now Germany based squad around Team Manager Andrey Stepanoff wants to compete in both the Cup and the Trophy ranking. The team is expected to enter a total of three cars for the 2013 season.

Team ArtLine was a successful ATS Formula 3 Trophy contender in the 2009 and 2010 seasons and won the titles in these years courtesy of Sergey Chukanov and Riccardo Brutschin respectively. The team attracted particular attention as it used its in-house designed and built ArtTech single-seater. This vehicle has been enhanced, since then, and is ready for another Trophy-title campaign.

Nonetheless, Team Principal Shota Abkhazava wants to mainly focus on the Cup ranking, next year. “We would love to enter two Dallara F311 single-seaters with Volkswagen power. Currently, the situation looks quite promising and we are negotiating with several drivers.”

2013 will be the 14th year in the history of Team ArtLine. In this period of time, the squad succeeded in winning the Russian Formula 3 title four times – inter alia with Vitali Petrov who is a Formula 1 driver, today. Five times, the vice-champion also was racing for Team ArtLine. And the team has close bonds with Mikhail Aleshin who won the 2010 Renault World Series 2.3 title.

With the new team headquarters in Germany – located in state-of-the-art facilities in Hofheim/Lampertheim – Team ArtLine underlines its concrete plans to make its ATS Formula 3 Cup comeback, next year.
